At TradeMore, we understand the importance of keeping your personal data safe. That is why we are committed to making sure that you receive the service you expect and that your privacy is protected every step of the way.

In this notice we provide information on the personal data we collect, how we use it, how long we keep your personal data, and how to exercise your data protection rights.

Who This Notice Applies To

This notice applies to you if you are:

  • a tradesperson, including their employees, contractors and subcontractors, who use or have used the TradeMore platform, including in the context of a trial ('Tradesperson' or 'Tradespeople')
  • prospective users of the TradeMore platform, including those whose details were collected from lead generation or information service providers
  • a customer of a Tradesperson who uses or has used the TradeMore platform ('Consumer')
  • a visitor of our website or app

For Consumers

When you engage with a Tradesperson via our platform, the Tradesperson is the data controller. This means they are responsible for determining how and why your personal data is used, and for ensuring it is handled in line with data protection laws. Checkatrade acts as a data processor on their behalf, processing your personal data in accordance with their instructions and the contractual terms we have in place. This notice explains how your personal data is used, based on the instructions provided to us by Tradesepeople and as agreed between us.

TradeMore is a trading name of Vetted Ltd, which is the data controller of your personal data. We are part of the HomeServe Group, owned by Brookfield Infrastructure Partners. This notice applies not only to you but also to your employees, contractors and subcontractors. By engaging with our services, you acknowledge that the terms outlined in this notice extend to all individuals working under or in association with your business, including employees, contractors and subcontractors. It is your responsibility to ensure that they are aware of and comply with the terms contained within.

How We Collect Your Personal Data

We collect your personal data in the following ways:

  • From a Tradesperson as part of your engagement with them as a Consumer
  • Directly from you through your interaction with our platform and communication with us
  • From a business partner that has an existing relationship with you, such as providers of communication tools like WhatsApp and Gmail
  • From a lead generation company or information service provider
  • From a business we are purchasing that holds your personal data
  • Automatically through cookies and similar technologies – you can find out more about this in our Cookie Policy

What Personal Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

  • Basic personal data: Your name, age and date of birth
  • Contact information: Your email address, physical addresses and phone numbers
  • Billing and payment information: Your bank details and account information
  • Online behaviour and usage information: Information about how you use and access our platform, including IP address, details about the devices and technology you use
  • Communication history: Records of the correspondence we have had with you or you have had with a Tradesperson, if you are a Consumer
  • Communication preferences: Including marketing preferences

If you are a Tradesperson, we also collect information about your business, including the name, job roles, and general business information. In most circumstances, this information is not personal data as it relates to your business.

We do not intentionally collect special category data. Any such data, for example if a Consumer references a health issue in a chat, is collected incidentally.

How We Use Your Personal Data and Our Reasons

Under data protection laws, we can only process your personal data if we have a legal reason for doing so. We have detailed below how we use your personal data and our reasons:

How We Use AI

In order to deliver our services, some features of the platform make use of AI technology. These features include autoreplies to Consumers and other time-saving automations. These features are optional.

We do not allow third parties that we work with to deliver the features to use your data to train their AI models. TradeMore may train on anonymised data to keep improving its product.

How We Use Profiling and Automated Decision-Making

We may use your personal data to tailor your experience, improve our services, and show you relevant messages or offers. This includes using data about how you interact with our platform and through cookies on our sites.

We do not make decisions about you that are solely automated and that have a legal or significant effect.

How We Use Your Personal Data for Marketing

We may use your personal data to keep you informed about updates, offers, and services. We do this through email, SMS, in-app messages, and targeted advertising on social media and other platforms. We want to make sure our marketing is relevant to you. To do this, we may:

  • Use your personal data to show you adverts on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Google, and LinkedIn
  • Create "custom audiences" to show advertisements to our existing Tradespeople
  • Build "lookalike audiences" to find new users who are similar to you
  • Use anonymised or pseudonymised data to match with social media platforms for targeted advertising purposes
  • Use tools like pixels in emails to understand how people engage with our messages and improve what we send

You always have choices about how we use your personal data for marketing:

  • You can opt out of marketing messages at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or SMS we send
  • You can update your cookie settings in the cookie settings section of our website

We may share trends or insights based on anonymised data, like how Tradespeople are using the platform. Anonymised information is where all personal data that could identify you, for example your name or IP address, has been removed.

Some of the personal data that we collect may be transferred to and stored outside the United Kingdom. We use international data transfer safeguarding measures such as the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, and the US-UK Data Privacy Framework. How Long We Keep Your Personal Data

If you are a Tradesperson, we generally retain your personal data for six years from the last time you logged into our platform. Storing data allows us to keep accurate records for legal, regulatory, financial and legitimate business purposes, and to enable us to handle future complaints.

In some circumstances, we may keep your personal data longer if applicable law says we must. We may keep anonymised data for longer periods. Anonymised information is where all the personal data that could identify you, for example your name or IP address, has been removed.

For Consumers: As a data controller, the Tradesperson will choose how long they hold on to your personal data. You should contact them if you would like to know their data retention periods.

Your Rights

You have individual rights pertaining to your personal data, including:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
  • Correction: Request corrections to inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data in certain cases. We will inform you if immediate deletion is not possible due to retention rules.
  • Restriction: Ask us to limit how we use your personal data in specific situations.
  • Objection: Object to certain uses of your personal data, including marketing. You cannot opt out of essential service communications.
  • Portability: Request transfer of your personal data to you or another organisation.
  • Withdraw consent: If we process personal data based on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. This will not affect the lawfulness of the processing carried out on the basis of consent before its withdrawal.

We will not charge you for a copy of your personal data, but we may ask you for proof of your identity before we disclose any personal data. We will respond within one month, unless more time will be required to action the request. If that is the case, we will notify you within the one-month period.

For Consumers: You can contact us to exercise your individual rights. We have agreed with the Tradesperson (the data controllers of your personal data) to help handle your data. However, we may only hold some of your data, so we recommended you also contact the relevant Tradesperson.
